Cloud Storage Gateways category on WhatMatrix has been updated with the latest product’s details. 13 new products have been added and in total 49 products from 8 main Cloud Storage Gateway vendors are in the comparison.
There is also one significant change in the comparison. Each product now shows whether it is hardware, virtual or cloud instance. The cloud deployments are getting to be more and more popular and this was the main reason of this adjustment.
The main updates are:
Nasuni added model NF-60 as a replacement of NF-50, new model doubles the memory size
Ctera introduced EV16 as their first virtual appliance. Ctera and Microsoft were the last vendors which didn’t have the virtual appliances in their product list and EV16 is a logical way forward
EMC already had wide product portfolio despite they introduced a new physical model 20 P which is filling the gap between entry and enterprise solutions
NetApp added virtual appliance AVA-v2 as the entry point in their virtual CSG offering
Panzura introduced new product line of the hardware appliances with several improvements and also follows the trend of the others CSG vendors focusing on the cloud version in their offering. AMI cloud appliance can be ordered in AWS in three different configurations
Avere updated all the hardware appliances a well, available now with in the more powerful configuration. Also Avere added the Cloud appliance in Azure and it is the only vendor who offers deployment in all three main cloud providers AWS, Google and Azure. On the other side Avere is the only vendor which doesn’t offer to run the virtual appliance on premises, focusing only on the cloud solutions.
There is a clear movement from traditional hardware appliances to virtual and cloud ones. This is what customers are looking for. They can try the virtual and/or cloud version, before going to the HW instance. The deployment of the virtual instance is also much easier and vendors usually can provide trial period to test it. For many of the customers, the virtual/cloud version is sufficient and if not they can anytime move to the hardware based appliance. The management software is usually the same, so migration is pretty easy.
