Hello, Runecast! … Déjà vu

Share this:

Like some of my regarded fellow Virtualists (Stan Markov, Ivo Ivanov, Aylin Sali) I also decided to take a peek over the fence into a different world, world of startup companies – Runecast Solutions.

Credit to IBM

My big thanks belong to IBM, namely the Client Innovation Center in Brno, CZ, where I started at the very beginning, 2001, with the true pioneer platform of vitualization – system Z, or Mainframes if you like. Yes, those dinosaurs who started with virtualizing their resources nearly half a century ago. And they are still alive! But only affordable for largest enterprices.

And that’s where I met all my future professional friends, coworkers, VMware virtualization and spent 16 great years in various technical and management positions. IBM is a true thinktank, a company of a size I could only partially explore but with many people I hold in high regard. And I am very grateful for those opportunities and I can only repeat what Stan already wrote in this article.

Step aside – Runecast

But as the history shows (Citrix being one of many examples) it is more efficient to start a new project, new concept, at a green field. And this happened to a bunch of VMware engineers and architects of my team back in 2014. Following the idea that was supported by any existing solution in the market, they created a working solution that is gaining global traction 3 years after. Which may be something usual for you, readers from the USA, UK or other major markets but it is not that common for our region – Central and Eastern Europe.

I’m happy to take part in this venture backed up by great virtualization people, rejoin my old team-mates and learn, expand and meet new true pros of this growing IT industry. The space is endless.

The Virtualist – we continue!

I’d like to also encourage all of you, virtualization community members, to join us at The Virtualist. You can see that recently we’ve been a bit lazy to create lots of new posts but we are an open platform and all of you are welcome to contribute. Here my thanks to Aram, Dusan, Ivaylo and Nikolay for their 2017 posts.
